Ice Fishing
The early
and steady cold temperatures as well as small amounts of snow in
the beginning gave the ice a great start for ice fishing.
Please check with area businesses for tips on recent ice
conditions. The ice has been thick but still be very aware of
springs or moving water that are likely more active as we enter
the end of the season and things start to melt, causing some
areas to be unpredictable. Also, keep in mind if traveling out
on the ice; there is little to no snow left out on the lakes
it will be slippery, plan accordingly.
Many anglers
are taking advantage of the wonderful ice fishing our many lakes
and rivers offer. They are catching Walleye & Perch on inland
lakes in some of the more southern parts of Douglas County,
Walleye and Crappie in Lake Nebagamon and Crappie and Northern
on Lake Amnicon.
Please
remember with ice fishing or any other winter activity that
takes you out on the ice to use caution regardless of the recent
cold temperatures. Know the ice your on and always be aware of
the ice thickness as well as any changes in ice conditions. Ice
is unpredictable due to moving water from springs, inlets and
outlets, which may cause the ice to be thinner in some spots.
Recommended minimum ice thickness for foot travel is 4 inches, 6
inches or more for a snowmobile or ATV, 8-12 inches for small
cars or light trucks and at least 12-15 inches for midsize cars
or trucks.
Outdoor

check with individual rinks for flooding schedule.
