Criteria for Student Excellence In Education Award

The intent is to recognize a student who has exhibited extraordinary qualities and effort, above and beyond what is considered normal or expected, and who is quite likely not a top academic achiever.

The spirit in which this award is offered reflects recognition that success in life and in one's job is often determined more by attitude, effort and the ability to apply learning than by academic achievement alone.

Please select the students from the following categories:

  1. Student Leadership
    • This category recognizes the honor students who have demonstrated leadership in their schools, community and personal involvements. Academic standing should not be a consideration.
  2. Student "Volunteerism"
    • This student has demonstrated an above normal understanding and appreciation of the community around him/her. The potential recipient will have been involved with community organizations, businesses and/or industry and understands the value and importance of volunteering time and effort toward the growth and betterment of the community.
    • and/or
    • This student has participated in civic clubs/organizations aimed at helping those in need in the community, thus instilling a greater understanding of our responsibility as adult citizens of community needs.
  3. Student Who Has Overcome Adversity
    • This category is aimed at a student who has overcome extreme adversity, has greatly improved, or who was faced with a high degree of challenge either mentally, physically or economically and has excelled despite these circumstances.

First, we will honor the seniors who will be graduating from the Chamber’s Youth Leadership Program. We will also be introducing the current junior class and the new incoming sophomore class.

Second, we will be honoring a total of 24 seniors from all three-area high schools. The spirit in which this award is offered reflects recognition that success in life and in one's job is often determined more by attitude, effort and the ability to apply learning than by academic achievement alone. The students then select an educator who has greatly contributed to their success, and we will honor him/her.

Third, we will also honor “Special” educators each year.
